Doctor Who, Casualty, and random stuff

Okay, first thoughts on tonight's tv. Posted behind the cut as there are *major* spoilers for Doctor Who, and minor ramblings and speculation about Casualty.
In other news, today I was at the Lowdham Book Festival. It was okay, but the turnout was rather low due to the excessive rain, and I suspect most of the people who were browsing round the stall were actually just coming into the tent to get out of said rain.
On the plus side, I found a second hand book about dinosaurs for £3.00. Not bad to say it was a hardback, and okay, it was published in 1962, which means my favourite dinosaur hadn't even been discovered at that point, but it has lots of really cool line drawings of fossils and bones and skeletons, and lists and definitions of dinosaur identification by species and genus and family and infraorder and suborder and all that sort of stuff (which I've probably just got wrong because I'm not a biologist) and stuff that modern books don't have because they thinks that such things aren't cool and popular and people don't actually want hard scientific facts and information in their books (but that's another rant about dumbing down for another day).
Firstly:
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo... (pauses for breath) oooooooooooooooooooooooooo..........
They'd better bloody not have got rid of Martha. My favourite companion by a long way, far better than Rose. If she's not brought back in series four I'll be severely pissed off.
Secondly:
Great episode (apart from above mentioned travesty of getting rid of Martha). It made me cry, which is not what you expect from a Saturday night Doctor Who. Although I probably shouldn't be surprised as that was the second episode in series three that has made me cry (the other was the fantastic 'family of blood'). In my opinion, series three has far surpassed one and two in storylines, chemistry between Doctor and Companion, and quite frankly David Tennant's acting has been, well, I don't think words exist in the English language for me to describe how much I've loved watching him act this series. Love it. Absolutely love it.
Thirdly:
John Simm. Great acting, loved his bad guy thing. He *so* looked like he was enjoying himself a whole lot in that part. And I'm sorry, but *how* slashy was that death scene getting with the Master and the Doctor? I seriously thought for a moment that the Doctor was going to kiss him, they were *that* close. Maybe I've just been reading too much Primeval, Doctor Who and Torchwood slashfic, but come on. That was just getting too close to the edge of Saturday night TV. Not that I'm complaining too much, but I suspect if they cut much closer the show might get banned, regardless of how good it is.
Fourthly:
Jack!?! Face of Bo!?! WTF!?!
Onto other things. Does anyone else watch Casualty? If they do, is it just me (and again, see above comment about reading too much slash fic for other shows) but is anyone else getting worried about Stitch and Guppy?

Date: 2007-07-01 11:10 am (UTC)There were things about the episode I didn't like (see other posts in Entangled_Now's journal, particlularly the fact that they made little or no use of Jack (except the grubby, in chains, very slashable image)and the time-winding-backwards Deus Ex Machina ending bit I agree about the Dr/Master "death" scene. So is he dead, and whose hand picked up the ring?
I don't want them to lose Martha yet, far too soon, and they's better not have killed off the Master. NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, not wached Casualty for a while, but if it's getting slashy, I might start again!
The Book Festival sound fun! I've been consulting my beloved old Augusta & Burian, Prehistoric Animals book for my necxt fic, and it contained exactly what I wanted!!!!

Date: 2007-07-01 11:40 am (UTC)I don't think Casualty is getting slashy, it's probably just me reading things into it that aren't there after reading all this slash for other shows. But there are two characters that I'm really starting to wonder about. Also, genuinely in the script at the moment, one of the paramedics is gay and is in love with one of the other paracmedic's who is straight. Lots of angst in this week's episode for that bit of plot.
My dinosaur reference book at the moment is a library book, because annoyingly enough I lent most of my collection of dinosaur and prehistoric animal books to a friend, about a month before I started writing Primeval fanfic and actually realised I might need them.

Date: 2007-07-01 11:53 am (UTC)And I still might watch Casualty, just in case!

Date: 2007-07-01 02:53 pm (UTC)Although that would actually need the Torchwood scriptwriters to *do* something with Ianto, rather than just having him standing around in the background and occasionally getting beaten up!

Date: 2007-07-01 03:20 pm (UTC)Yes, they do need to do more with Ianto. Although my preference is still for Jack/Owen, but that's probably my unhealthy prediliction for sightly angry fic-sex showing here :)
And I'm about to go off and try and load an icon!!!

Date: 2007-07-01 04:45 pm (UTC)UST is 'unresolved sexual tension', a staple of all good angsty fanfic in any genere.
Owen would be okay if he'd stop being such a dick all the time. Afraid I just can't picture Jack/Owen, although I do have a bit of a liking for Gwen/Owen.
BTW, you remember that conversation we were having about Ryan/Sharpe on Thursday? I'd not forgotten, I'm writing it as we speak. Probably not quite the story you were thinking of, because I'm rubbish at smut and PWP, but hopefully there'll be enough manly heroics and inuendo to make it work. Watch this space...

Date: 2007-07-01 05:01 pm (UTC)UST - of course! Knew I was being dense.
You're right, Owen is a complete dick most of the time, but I loved him in the episode with the black death breaking through, when he actually got to do something vaguely medical, instead of just cutting up dead things.
I do remember the Ryan/Sharpe conversation (it's filed in the part of my mental inbox labelled The Gutter"). I shall be watching this space avidly until it appears! But we're off out to dinner tonight, so I'll have to put Rome on DVD and catch up with everything later or tomorrow ..........
I'm sure some smut will successfully creep in! I never thought I'd ever write it either, and look where I've ended up !!!!
