I know, it's April and I should have posted this in January. My bad.

Here's my reading list for 2023. I'm not doing book bingo this year, needed a year off to concentrate on clearing the magazine backlog, and also I didn't think the 2023 challenge would be compatible with the books that I wanted to read this year. Also, I'm not setting any targets for books this year, I'm just going to see how it goes and what I fancy reading, with no pressure.

Much belated book reviews (considering I read the first one on January 1st!).

Considering that in January I said I was going to try to post more regularly this year, that doesn't seem to have worked out so well, because it's now May. Oops.

Anyway, just a quick update, and then I'll get on with posting some very late book reviews.

Joining the mass migration, I opened a dreamwidth account at the weekend, and today it has finally managed to import my entire lj archive going back to 2007. Woohoo! I'd almost given up on it ever working, and was starting to think I would lose all that history.

I'm on DW with the same username, and starting to rebuild my f-list over there. I know a lot of people have been posting their DW links lately, just in case, and I'll have a trawl and see who I can find, but I'm very much still trying to find my way around DW and haven't yet figured out how to initiate a friend request myself (as opposed to accepting one that someone else sends me). So basically what I'm saying is don't be offended if you're someone I talk to regularly on lj and I don't add you right away on DW. It's more likely that I'm having a technology fail than because I'm deliberately not adding you!

Like most of the people on my flist, I would much rather stay on lj, but with things the way they are right now, the backup option seems to be something of a necessity. Good luck everyone, hopefully see you on the other (DW) side...

Possibly I was having a moment of madness, but I have decided to sign up for [livejournal.com profile] ljbookbingo this year. I have no illusions that I will get a blackout, but I think I'm mostly hoping it will encourage me to read more, and to read more widely than just crime novels and popular science non-fiction, which was apparently the theme for last year.

The aim is to read books where the title starts with each letter (not counting 'A' or 'The', although if you want to use something starting with those to fill the A or T square you can). There are three free squares that can be substituted in for letters that you really can't find a book to fill.

Right, here we go again. Let's see if we can beat last year's total of 7 books read in the entire year. I'm not going to set myself any targets, but 'better than 7' seems a fairly low bar to aim for, and if I get to double figures I'm going to call it a win.

That was scary! I went to post the mansfieldfans Thursday picture an hour ago, and managed to accidentally log myself out of lj. And when I tried to log back in, it told me my password was expired. So then I had to go through the reset password process which turned into slightly more palaver than it should have been because the only email that it would send the reset link to was an email I haven't used for ages rather than my ususl one. So then I had a panic about whether or not I'd be able to get the email with the reset link.

But, as you can see, it worked, and I can stop panicking now. And post a Ben pic.

Really must do an actual life update post at some point, I feel I have been rather neglecting lj of late. But on the plus side, at least I can still get into my lj!!! :-)

*looks at date on calendar, sighs*. For something that is traditionally done in the first week or two of January, this is even later than last year's reading list went up!

Still trying to get through the magazine backlog, although to be fair the only one that is really miles behind now is Writing Magazine, and I am catching up with that slowly. There's also Ancient History magazine, but the main reason I have a load of those is because I only discovered the magazine existed at around issue 9, so at some point after I had got a few issues and knew I liked it, I went on their website and got hold of all the back issues. Although I am also quite behind on the 'current' issues as well...

Eek, my first fanfic since 2017, and it's for Ghosts, my latest tv obsession. I can't lie, I watched series 1 and knew I wanted to write about Robin the caveman, I just didn't think it would take me this long to do it (although that was more to do with computer issues than lack of interest, considering I've had this substantially written since April).

In other news I really need to get myself a Ghosts icon. And the fic title sucks, but I really couldn't think of anything else and wanted to get it posted before the end of the weekend.

Anyway, fic!

Title: Memories
Author: Athene
Fandom: Ghosts
Pairing/characters: Robin, Alison, Pat
Rating: PG
Warnings: none
Spoilers: episode 1.3 - Happy Death Day
Disclaimer: not mine. BBC and Them There owns them

AN1: thanks to [livejournal.com profile] fififolle for the beta. Fic is set post episode 1.3 - Happy Death Day. Because a certain conversation in that episode made me do it, okay?!

So, my plan to post to lj more regularly doesn't seem to have happened recently. I ought to get round to doing a general update post before too long, but for now this is mainly aimed at the book bingo gang, because I'm looking for book recs. Specifically crime novels with more of a focus on the forensics side of things, and/or cold case crime fiction.

Hmmm, ok, I know it's March already, but better late than never?

Here's the 2020 reading list. I've decided I'm not doing the book bingo challenge this year, mostly because I really need to spend a few months getting on top of my, quite frankly, ridiculous backlog of magazines. Two months in, no books read, some dents being made in magazine piles...

So, I'm massively behind on book reviews for lj book bingo this year, but here are three more in an attempt to get vaguely up to date before the end of the year. Still no bingo, although I can see at least two lines which are only one square away from a bingo if I can just fill it in the next month and half!

I'm back, hopefully a bit more regularly now I'm getting used to the no-longer-very-new tablet! (Still stuggling a bit with copying and pasting, which is making a lot of html very difficult, because to be honest my usual method of posting lj posts is to copy and paste the relevant html from a previous post. Actually having to manually type it out is getting a bit faffy!). Anyway, I'm having a couple of days off after a lovely weekend away with [livejournal.com profile] fififolle and [livejournal.com profile] clea2011, although I'm back to work tomorrow, so thought I should take the opportunity to update my reading list and post another couple of reviews. The sad thing is I've had these two reviews written for a couple of months I just haven't been online enough to actually post them.

Hello! I'm alive, I do still exist!

Sorry I've been pretty much absent lately. I've been watching lots of TV, and reading lots of books (I have about five book bingo reviews handwritten and good to post!) but mostly it's because my laptop is so old and cranky that I've reached the stage of not wanting to turn it on unless I know I'm going to be online for a couple of hours, because it takes so long to start up it's no longer worth it for short periods. However, I'm now on a mission to buy myself a tablet, so hopefully should be around a bit more in a week or so, once I've got that sorted. (I've been asking round my friends for recommendations, I'm hoping I can get some advice from you at the weekend, please, Fifi and Clea?).

Anyway, I won't post all the book reviews at once, but here's the first two. I'll stagger posting the others over the next week or so.

I've finished my first book of 2019, so here's the first book review of the year.

To accompany [livejournal.com profile] ljbookbingo, I'm again keeping a complete list of what I'm reading in 2019, as inevitably some of the things I read won't fit the bingo.

I'm doing [livejournal.com profile] ljbookbingo again in 2019. \o/

I just about scraped a blackout in on the very last day of 2018, so it would be nice to manage it with a bit more room to spare this time round. But mostly I'm just looking forward to reading lots of interesting and entertaining books in 2019.

In 2017 I read 28 books, in 2018 I read 33, so for 2019 I'm setting a vague 'target' of 40, but I'm not putting myself under any pressure - it's supposed to be fun, after all!

Woohoo! I did it! I read an entire book last night and have now got a blackout on my book bingo card! *does little happy dance*.

On Friday evening I have to admit I didn't think I would manage a blackout, I still had two and a half squares to fill at that point. But, largely thanks to managing to get my hands on two *very* short books for the final two squares, and two *very* late nights reading in bed, I've done it. And with a day to spare as well!

So, one last book review.

I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas, and didn't eat too much food (I did! I was at my parents' for Christmas, and sometimes I think my mum still thinks I live like a student and need feeding up every time I go to visit!). I'll try to have a catch-up on everyone's recent posts in the next day or two, I've not been online since the Thursday before Christmas, so I'm way behind!

Anyway, another thing I'm way behind on is book bingo reviews. As of today, I have filled 24 squares, and am *one* squares away from a blackout. The deadline is midnight on the 31st, right? I've still got time... maybe.

I have another bingo! Four corners and the centre square, to be exact.

I'm now up to 28 books read in total this year (2018 reading list), and only need to fill another 6 squares on the bingo to get a blackout. But with only two months left I might be cutting it fine! Meep!

But anyway, on with the latest book reviews.
