Strange new world. No forest, just open hills, covered with unfamiliar green vegetation.

A biting wind chilled her after the heat she had left behind. The light was still there, slowly spinning, turning familiar hunting grounds into unknown territory in the wink of an eye.

She sniffed cautiously, and caught a new scent on the wind. Her keen eyes saw movement; a small herd of two-legged animals, brightly coloured, but flimsy looking. They had no obvious armour, no defence except for their numbers. She flexed her claws, watching them come closer, oblivious to her presence.

Strange animals.

Prey animals.

Oh, cool! Lovely, evocative drabble.

Thanks. I was feeling guilty because I hadn't drabbled for a while, but couldn't think of a single thing to write for this one. Then this came to me this evening.

Meep! Run, flimsy looking prey animals! Run! *g*

Cool alternative pov.

Heehee. That was actually the hardest part of writing this drabble - trying to describe humans from the perpective of a creature. That's always been the stumbling block whenever I've tried to write fic from Rex's pov - how to make it clear who or what you're talking about without using names or terms that Rex wouldn't think in.

Thanks. I'm glad this one worked. I'd been trying to come up with something for this challenge all week.

Nice. The critters deserve their viewpoint, too :-)

Nick would probably argue that the creature was only doing what comes naturally, even after they team has found what's left of the hikers.

Yes, he would :-)

(And they are, really, when you think about it).

They are. And Nick will lose the very escence of his character if he ever stops fighting on behalf of the creatures and gives in to the 'shoot everything' approach.

Absolutely. He didn't eve want to kill the Future Predators, despite how dangerous they were.

excellent!

mind you, I don't think this is a raptor of any sort - the "flimsy looking" suggests its a burly predator.

Thanks. I don't know, some of those raptor-types could get quite large, and to them a human might appear flimsy, even if not especially small. But I take your point.

Yes! Finally someone else does a creature pov! *g*

I love how we are channelling raptors... fitting, I suppose, considering your user name. *evil cackle*

Glad you liked. I'd been trying to think of something of this challenge all week. And I do have something of a soft spot for the neglected deinonychus - thanks to Jurassic Park and Walking with Dinosaurs, the deinonychus seems doomed to obscurity behind its better known cousins velociraptor and utahraptor.

I was trying to find a way of describing people wearing brightly coloured jackets and hats and such for hiking. It possibly didn't work quite so well! But yep, running is in order, witha side order of fleeing and scarpering into the bargain. Otherwise they're about to become food...

Nice fic - it's rare to find one from the pov of a creature.

Nice view from the creature's point of view. Not so good news for the strange prey animals... eek for the hikers!
