Abby stared at yet another anomaly that hadn’t brought Connor home.

            Another hope dashed.

            “They’ll be okay.” Corporal Barclay smiled encouragingly.

            “Do you really believe that?”

            “The captain will look after Connor. Besides, who better to survive the Jurassic than an experienced soldier and a dinosaur expert?”

            “Yeah. Connor’s probably driving Ryan crazy talking about the dinosaurs.” Her smile felt fake, though.

            It’s the Jurassic, she thought. They’re lost in the Jurassic.

Barclay reached out and squeezed her hand. The gesture was quick, easy to ignore if she wanted to. But she didn’t want to.

Abby squeezed back, and continued to hope.
