I've done this for the past couple of years. It's interesting to see when I'm having distinct non-fiction phases, or when I've found a book series I enjoy and binged on them back to back.

One thing I have definitely noticed over the last couple of years is that I'm either reading books *or* I'm catching up on a backlog of writing/archaeology/astronomy magazines. I don't really seem to read both at the same time, and I have no idea why that should be.

I sometimes get stuck on a topic. A coupleof years ago it was Richard III/The Plantgenets. Both fiction and non-fiction. I read loads of them! Then I stop completely.

Can you recommend any good books about Richard III and the Plantagenets? I read a book last year was a good general introduction (I think it was called The Demon Brood, or something), and it was interesting enough that I might be looking for something a bit more detailed.

There's one that I keep seeing in bookshops called The Plantagenets, by Dan something.. North, maybe? It looks good, but I'm probably more likely to try to get it from the library than to actually buy it.

Dan Jones. I have that one but haven't read it yet. I follow him on facebook. He does giveaways regularly of his books. Always worth a try.

Depends whether you want fiction or non fiction. I'm gonna assume non-fic. One that sticks in my mind of what I've read recently was this one

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17378664-the-last-days-of-richard-iii-and-the-fate-of-his-dna

It looks at history in a different light. From before the events happened. Richard would not have known he was going to lose at Bosworth. He expected to win. Therefore he would have had plans for the future etc... It sort of looks at his last few months without the knowledge of what was to come.

Another short one, a friend picked up in York for me. It's only about 60 pages but I enjoyed it

Isn't there a tv documentary series called the Demon's Brood... hold on....

Yes it's The Devil's Brood and is still on iPlayer for another week or so.

Yes, Dan Jones, that's the one I was thinking of.

Cool, thanks, I'll have a look at those. Yes, I spotted they've been repeating that series on BBC4, but I'm sure I only watched it last year, so didn't bother with it this time round. Unless I'm at a loose end on Friday afternoon and decide to binge-watch it again... I finish work at lunchtime on Fridays, and Friday afternoon often seems to turn into my time for catching up on random science and history documentaries on the i-player.

Dan is fab historian but sometimes I find he lets his personal opinions get in the way. I try and ignore it when he does.

Yeah I think it was last year I watched it.
