“He’s been gone too long.”

Lester glanced at Matt, but resumed pacing the office without response.

“Maybe one of us should...”

“No!” Lester snapped. “Becker volunteered. He knew the risks. We have to trust him.”

As if prompted by Lester’s words the air conditioning began to whirr, cleansing the atmosphere of the prehistoric spores that had infected all the females in the ARC.

Ten minutes later Becker staggered back in and leaned heavily against the door. His hair was ruffled, his shirt hung in tatters, and deep scratches made by well manicured nails criss-crossed any exposed skin.

“Bloody sex pollen!”
