I suspect in this instance, because Abby had left first she hadn't actually realised that Caroline had remained in the flat. She probably assumed that Caroline would have left when Connor did (which would be a perfectly reasonable assumption, to be honest).
But yes, despite her needing to be rescued, this episode does show a lot of Abby's strengths as well.
