Life on Earth started in the ocean. Every palaeontologist knows that. As a teenager, Connor loved the idea that the origins of life were the result of alien experiments. These days, his theories are a lot less fun.

Now he wonders if life was started by a random organism from the past, present or future straying through an anomaly into the sterile Precambrian ocean. What if life from Earth created life on Earth? Then life would be the universe’s biggest ever perpetual time-loop paradox; a freakish, fragile accident.

Sometimes, in the dark of night, Connor finds these thoughts rather frightening.

Super-scary, as Connor might say! But very good :-)

Thanks. I wonder if Connor ever did finish that dissertation of his about aliens starting life on earth? This theory would make a great dissertation, but Cutter would be the only other person in academia who would ever be able to read it!
