Life on Earth started in the ocean. Every palaeontologist knows that. As a teenager, Connor loved the idea that the origins of life were the result of alien experiments. These days, his theories are a lot less fun.

Now he wonders if life was started by a random organism from the past, present or future straying through an anomaly into the sterile Precambrian ocean. What if life from Earth created life on Earth? Then life would be the universe’s biggest ever perpetual time-loop paradox; a freakish, fragile accident.

Sometimes, in the dark of night, Connor finds these thoughts rather frightening.

You were quick off the mark again! I dithered for a short while whether to write this as Cutter or Connor pov, but while Cutter might think of the possibilty of life starting that way, only Connor would think in terms of time-loop paradoxes.

And only Connor would lay awake at night and worry so much!

With someone like Connor, I suspect that sometimes that much intelligence is as much a curse as it is a blessing.

Definitely! An over-active brain *g*.
