I hadn't really noticed most of this before (I see Becker and my brain gets stuck on 'Ooooh, pretty'), but he did make a lot of mistakes. Or the writers did.

The idea that he was more of a Stephen replacement than a Ryan replacement makes a lot of sense, though.
