I think that we are supposed to be believe that in the 'new' timeline of series 2 that they have all given up their previous jobs and are working full time at the ARC. Certainly the university and zoo are never mentioned again, and despite the fact that Caroline thinks Connor is a student, I suspect he's just told her that as a cover story rather than him actually still being a full time student *as well* as all the ARC work.
